Meet Uday, Senior Product Owner at MV
With so many exciting developments happening to MV’s products at the moment, we wanted to introduce you to the people behind bringing our solutions to our customers. This week, we sat down with Uday to find out more about his experiences at MV.
MV: So, why did you join MV?
UB: My past experience in financial services has ranged from analytics and planning at the Co-Operative Bank, through to new product development in mortgages. Mutual Vision offered me the opportunity to remain in a sector I know and love, whilst allowing me to develop my skills in digital product management.
Once I understood more about MV and got to meet the team, I quickly realised how aligned their values are with my own. My career has taken me to corporate and privately owned organisations but the ethos of working for the common good and not just the shareholders really resonated with me.
MV: What do you enjoy about working here?
UB: The short answer – because every day is different.
The working environment is extremely collaborative, and everyone is working towards a common goal. The product team is tight knit, but I also get to work with people all over MV which keeps me engaged and always learning.
I never feel like I am just a cog in the wheel. The leadership team are accessible and welcome opinions and debate in a bid to find the best possible outcomes for the MV Community.
Joining an organisation during a lockdown period could have been difficult but the team here have been so accommodating. Despite only meeting three people face to face, I really do feel part of the team.
MV: Any particular favourite projects you’ve worked on?
UB: I have only been here for 5 months and the range of initiatives and projects I have been involved in has been immense. They’ve all been engaging on their own way and there certainly has never been a period of time when it’s not been interesting.
Helping design and develop the MV Partner Programme is a great project to be involved in. I get to dive into products and technology that can really make a huge difference to the way we deliver solutions to our customers and how these partnerships can help customers accelerate their strategy. A mutual win! If you want to get into specifics, I have to say that the Mobile App has been my favourite product to work on so far. Being a user of a banking app really brings the concept to life as I know, from first-hand experience, how much of a game changer it can be for the customer experience.
Mutual Vision is continually growing, and the product team is no different. We have product managers starting out on their career and being able to take on a leadership role and focus on coaching them is truly rewarding.
MV: What keeps you happy outside of work?
UB: At the moment I would say it is more the case of what is keeping me busy! All of my family are currently in some form of education. My wife is a 5th year medical student and currently working in a hospital and studying for finals in March, I am in the middle of my Senior Leader’s MBA and my children have a mix of school and home-school. We don’t really have any time for new hobbies. I did, however, make a pledge to run 5km every day in January 2021 and although this has meant some late-night outings, it has been great to de-compress after a long day. Having done that, I’m giving my legs a rest for a week.
MV: Ahead of apprenticeship week, we’d like to know more about the apprenticeship MBA?
UB: I’m a great believer in lifelong learning and everyone should refresh and upgrade their knowledge throughout their life. The apprenticeship MBA at MMU has given the opportunity to focus on where I want to focus my career. Its focussed on providing me with the theory and practical skills across a diverse range of business areas. The practical apprenticeship element comes from assignments that focus on improving practices at work and evidencing leadership behaviours. I think apprenticeships are a great way to learn, apply and embed that learning at MV. It’s a mutual benefit (How many times can I say mutual 😊?).
